Strengths & Objectives

We aim to develop resourceful, responsible, resilient, loyal leaders and team players through fun and challenging military related activities. We believe that all our cadets can become strong leaders with good character.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC Sea) is a platform for cadets to bond, learn and participate in numerous activities, which stretch them both mentally and physically. Being a Sea unit, we leverage on various water activities such as kayaking, dragon boating and sailing to build self-confidence, physical dexterity, situational awareness, teamwork and mental resilience.

The goal of every BBSS sea cadet after experiencing the various training activities and events is to leave the unit as the best versions of themselves. We want to develop all of them into strong leaders with good character. To achieve this, our cadets are given opportunities to challenge themselves and grow from the experience. They take part in activities, which are designed to push them out of their comfort zone safely.

Cadets are challenged in activities such as the arduous 36km Mini Kayaking Expedition (MKE) followed by a grueling three-day 100km Annual Kayaking Expedition (AKE). They participate in overseas mountaineering expeditions to Mt Ophir and International Cadet Exchange Programmes (ICEP) where they learn to manage themselves and interact with cadets from countries like Brunei, Hong Kong, India, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. A select few get a chance to participate in the Midshipman Training Deployment (MSTD), where they travel with the Republic of Singapore Navy Officer Cadets on board their sea missions back to Singapore. In 2018, 3 out of 10 cadets selected nationwide for participating in the MSTD from Phuket to Singapore, were from BBSS.

In 2019, BBSS cadets were selected to take part in the MSTD, ICEP-US, ICEP-UK, ICEP- India, Mt Ophir Expedition and also host the ICEP-in bound programme – representing the largest number of cadets sent for major NCC HQ events.

Notable events & Achievements

The gratifying experiences have helped the unit attain the Best Unit Competition Gold Award for seven consecutive years (2011-2017). For 2018 and 2019, BBSS NCC Sea achieved a Distinction Award under the new Unit Recognition system of Assessment.

Our yearly events facilitate character development and give cadets the opportunity to showcase their talent and leadership skills within the rules and regulations of the regiment. Our programme gives cadets the chance to embark on new skills and have fun at the same time. This developmental experience is further exemplified in the Annual Sea competition in which NCC (SEA) swept all the individual gold awards for the Girls Bends and Hitches as well as emerging overall Girls Bends and Hitches Champion 2016 and 2017. We also competed in the inaugural National Canoe Slalom Championship where our cadets did well to beat out established schools and were able to garner 10 medals.

In 2018, a record 18 Cadet Leaders successfully completed the arduous 36km Mini Kayaking Expedition (MKE) with 11 going on to complete the 100km Annual Kayaking Expedition (AKE). The expeditions saw many cadets step out of their comfort zone and braving the rough challenge to help one another. In 2018 and 2019, our female cadets achieved 1st runner-up in the Girl’s dragon boat competition and champions for the Frisbee component of the NCC Sports Challenge in 2018 and 2019.

2019 was also the year that we came in 1st in the NCC Fitness Challenge Prelims and 3rd runner up in the Grand Finals. We were also NCC and District champions for the Captain’s Ball, Frisbee and Street soccer events in Sports Challenge 2019

As a uniform group, NCC brings cadets together, reinforces the importance of teamwork and forges everlasting friendships.

To serve with pride and dedication!
